Opening Hours :Monday to Friday

10:00 am – 4:00 pm

The Bereavement Office will:

Arrange the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD)
Explain the registration process
Liaise with funeral directors
Advise if the Coroner has been involved
Provide bereavement support information

The hospital mortuary is open for appointments Monday to Friday. Viewings must be arranged through the Bereavement Office.

Coroner

Some deaths must be referred to the Kent & Medway Coroner, for example where the cause of death is unknown, sudden, unexpected or unnatural.

The Coroner may:

Order a post-mortem examination
Investigate the circumstances of the death
Open an inquest where necessary

Once the Coroner has completed their enquiries, the necessary paperwork will be sent directly to the Registration Service where appropriate.
