Braintree Community Hospital provides community healthcare, outpatient clinics and rehabilitation services. It does not have an Accident & Emergency Department or acute inpatient services. Most emergency treatment and hospital deaths for residents of the Braintree District take place at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, where the Bereavement Office will provide guidance following a hospital death.

Appointments are required to register a death. Following changes introduced in September 2024, families are usually contacted by the Medical Examiner before arranging an appointment to register the death.

Before attending your appointment, make sure the Medical Examiner or hospital has confirmed that the paperwork has been completed. Where possible, take any documents requested by the Registration Service. If you do not have them, you can usually still register the death.
