In today's digital world, many people manage their finances, communications and treasured memories online. After someone dies, their digital accounts may need to be closed, transferred, memorialised or preserved.
Make a List of Digital Accounts
Start by identifying the online accounts the person used.
These may include:
- Email accounts
- Online banking
- Social media
- Shopping websites
- Streaming services
- Mobile phone accounts
- Cloud storage
- Online subscriptions
- Digital payment services (for example, PayPal or similar services).
Having a list will make it easier to manage each account.
Depending on the platform, you may be able to:
- Close the account.
- Request that it becomes a memorial account.
- Download certain information where permitted.
