Meet Christopher - The Interview
I've worked within the funeral profession since 2012 and have always felt it is a privilege to support families during one of the most difficult times in their lives.
My interest in funeral directing began after attending a relative's funeral. I was struck by the dignity, respect and professionalism shown by the funeral team.
Seeing the care they gave both the deceased and the family made me realise this was a career where I could truly make a difference to people when they needed support most.
What I enjoy most about the profession is helping families navigate a process that can often feel overwhelming.
Every family is different, and being able to guide them through important decisions with compassion and understanding is incredibly rewarding.
One of the most significant moments in my career was arranging and conducting my own father's funeral.
Experiencing the funeral process from the family's perspective gave me an even deeper appreciation of the importance of empathy, communication and getting every detail right.
Over the years, families have taught me a great deal about resilience and the importance of creating lasting memories. They have also reminded me that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
I believe a good funeral professional should be compassionate, approachable, patient and trustworthy. Above all, families need to feel listened to and supported.
If there is one misconception I would like to change, it is that funeral directors simply organise funerals. In reality, they provide guidance, reassurance and support at a time when people can feel lost and uncertain.
Away from work, I enjoy spending time with family, making the most of nature with walks, and making the most of life's simple pleasures.
To anyone who has recently lost a loved one, I would say: be kind to yourself. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and it's important to accept support when it is offered.
Being entrusted with the care of someone's loved one is a responsibility I have never taken lightly. It is a privilege, and one I have always approached with respect, dignity and compassion.
